Messenger Tarot

Origin and Creation

We created the Messenger Tarot in memory of Charles Alexandre Hadjedj (1950-2022), a modern seer who envisioned a simple yet powerful concept: a tarot deck presenting all meanings directly on the cards, allowing for intuitive, clear, and inspired readings.

He wished to anchor this tarot in the tradition of the Etteilla tarot, created in the 18th century by Jean-Baptiste Alliette, one of the first decks designed specifically for divination.

Inspired by this tarot, Egyptian-influenced divinatory methods, and the mystical and Hermetic philosophy of antiquity, the Messenger Tarot conveys depth and clarity: each card carries a precise meaning as a tool for guidance and interpretation.

Our work also draws on historical sources, including:

• Etteilla, ou manière de se récréer avec un jeu de cartes nommées tarots (c. 1770), one of the earliest texts describing the divinatory use of tarot;
• Le Grand Etteilla, ou l’Art de tirer les cartes (1838), formalizing one of the first structured divinatory tarot decks;
• L’Oracle parfait, ou Le passe-temps des dames (1875), attributed to Mlle Lenormand and Etteilla, compiling 19th-century divinatory knowledge.

We also consulted historical versions of the Etteilla tarot and interpretations from later schools, such as the Mage Edmond (1829–1881), as well as Parisian editions by Lismon, Grimaud, and Belline, honoring the evolution of this tradition across centuries.
